1. Heartland into my heart |
Like the first song, this was written a few years ago. It's a simple song, although the switch from 3/4 to 4/4 and back is a mind-bender to play. Theres a kind of D minor / C major thread running through the collection that draws from my experience of family, blending current experience with dim memories and made-up history. This song is an idiosyncratic collection of memories of the years I spent with my grandparents. I was always mystified when, at some provocation I hadn't perceived, my grandmother would start singing a hymn and my grandfather would fall in with the harmony. The duet with my Mom is an attempt to represent that. |
