1. Heartland into my heart |
Here's another one that, unless you have a young kid, will make you figure this guy has gone around the bend. Perversely, I'd like to hear this song with a hip-hop arrangement. Apologies to Zoboomafoo. |

The Great UnknownStephen R. Coffee ©2004
How well I still recall the day The day it came and took me away And all that I'd done wrong was turn five But Mama said "It's the rule, All little kids got to go to school. And that bus is gonna bring you back alive."
So she combed my hair and matched my sox Packed my Scooby-Doo lunchbox And hand in hand we walked down to the road There was all these kids in their Monday best I acted cool like all the rest Scared to death but I don't think it showed
And then it rolled into view Bigger than Dallas and Ft Worth too Snorting and groaning, bellowing wailing It lumbered up like a yellow whale And then you won't believe what it did It opened up its mouth and gobbled up all of us kids Yeah it carried me away Into the great unknown And then it brought me home
Well that's how it all came back to me My eyes so wet I could barely see Fumbling around in the kitchen When my little girl said "come on let's go It's my first day of school, you know" I guess I'm just no good at transitions
But I tied a bow in here Barbie shoes And packed her lunch-yeah, Scooby-Doo And hand in hand we walked down to the road If she was scared I couldn't see She always was much braver than me And so excited she could just about explode
But us parents didn't know what to do We just stood there staring at our shoes Acting like there was nothing strange When that bus rolled in like the winds of change My daughter waved goodbye and then she smiled Well Driver you be careful, you know she's just a little child And it carried her away Into the great unknown and then it brought her home
Now every day about quarter to four I bust out through the old front door I wouldn't want to keep a princess waiting There's something about the way things change And yet somehow still remain the same That sets my poor heart to reverberating
Then before you can say bubble gum jello And blaze of pink pops out of the yellow Hi Sweetheart, how was school She won't tell, she ain't no fool What did you learn, did you bring me something back? Is there something for me in that oversized Powerpuff Girl backpack That's gonna help me understand the great unknown?
Well every day she's less my girl And a little bit more a part of the world And I guess it should be clear to me the future is not ours to see And I don't know where she's taking us But the five year old is driving this bus Yeah she's taking me away Into the great unknown bringing me back home Into the great unknown |
